Niger received 53 trucks carrying petroleum products from Algeria to address fuel shortages across the country.
Niger’s Petroleum Minister, Mahamane Sani Mahamadou, received the first fleet of tankers bearing the Algerian flag in the north-central Agadez region on Sunday.
The delivery arrives as Niger continues to face challenges with petrol and diesel shortages, which the country links to a broader global crisis involving conflicts and disruptions in supply chains.
A statement from the petroleum ministry indicated that the shipment was organized following a request from Sonidep.
Niger, an oil-producing nation, began commercial petroleum production in 2011.
The state-owned SORAZ refinery, situated in the Zinder region, has a daily capacity of approximately 20,000 barrels, which is just sufficient to satisfy local demand.
The latest development comes days after Algeria sent troops to Niger to help it tackle terrorism amid efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries.
