The Ebola outbreak in Africa has resulted in over 5,300 deaths, with most cases occurring in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), as reported by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
On Monday, the Africa CDC reported that the outbreak has claimed 5,376 lives: 5,372 in the DRC and two in Kenya and Uganda.
The Bundibugyo strain of the virus, which is causing the current outbreak, has infected approximately 10,444 people in the DRC, Uganda, and Kenya, with a mortality rate exceeding 50%.
Uganda, a neighbouring country, reported 20 cases, nearly all involving individuals who travelled from the DRC before Uganda was declared Ebola-free in August.
