Kenya has discharged five Ebola patients after they tested negative for the virus and showed no symptoms, health officials announced on Tuesday.
According to the Kenyan Ministry of Health, only two patients remain under supportive medical care.
Authorities say they are encouraged by the country’s progress in containing the outbreak, with no new infections reported.
The Ministry of Health also confirmed the release of 46 people who had been quarantined for 21 days after being identified as close contacts of the first Ebola case in the DRC.
Twenty additional contacts were released last week, and a final group of 52 people is expected to complete quarantine and be discharged next week.
Kenya has so far reported 9 Ebola cases, including two deaths, but no evidence to date of community infection.
This comes barely a week after Saudi Arabia and Kuwait banned Kenyans from traveling to the Asian countries and halted the issuance of visas to Kenyans in their embassy in Nairobi for fear of a virus spike.
