Kenya’s rising 400m sprinter Mercy Oketch has been provisionally suspended by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK).
Oketch was provisionally suspended following the reported presence of two prohibited substances: Trimetazidine (S4 – Hormone and Metabolic Modulators) and Furosemide (S5 – Diuretics and Masking Agents).
She set the Kenyan 400m record of 50.14 last year in Kenya before going on to reach the semifinals at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The 24-year-old led Kenya to a bronze medal finish in the 4x400m mixed relay at the 2025 World Relays in Guangzhou, China.
Her suspension comes barely two weeks after the reigning world marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir was banned for use of a prohibited substance, EPO.
